Foreign
Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is a national level exam conducted by the National
Board of Examinations (NBE). Yes, FMGE is a compulsory licensure test for every
student who holds a foreign degree in medicine and wants to practice medicine in
India. The syllabus of this exam covers the MBBS course pre-medical,
para-clinical and clinical. FMGE is conducted twice a year online and the exam
duration is usually 2 hours and 30 minutes per paper.

Eligibility Criteria
The
National Board of Examinations (NBE) has a set of guidelines for the candidates
appearing the exam:
Ø Foreign medical graduates must be a citizen of India
or should be Overseas Citizens of India.
Ø The candidate should possess a primary medical
qualification, which is confirmed by the Indian Embassy concerned, to be a recognized
qualification for enrolment as a medical practitioner in the country.
Ø Candidates from Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom,
the United States of America and Australia are not required to take the FMGE
exam.
